A Promise

A poem

Be Open

--

A confidant, a best friend, an anchor,
He is none of that,
He is much more.

Ours is not a straight affair,
We’ve had our share of tears,
But we’ve always got each other.

Not my better half,
His flaws are a ton,
His qualities surpass them all.

A blessing in disguise,
I’ve had to look hard,
Then I saw and I’m never letting go.

To you who saw through my shell,
To you who dared to believe in us,
To you who held on,

I can’t promise much,
But as long as we breathe,
I promise you my everything.
